At the invitation of Romania's Ambassador Ovidiu Dranga, the chief of Polish diplomacy took part in a meeting to mark the inauguration of Romania's presidency of the European Union Council. The Presidency's activities will be centred on the four priorities: Europe of Convergence; a Safer Europe; Europe, a Stronger Global Actor; and Europe of Common Values. A summit in Sibiu with debates on the EU's future will be a major event during the Presidency.

The head of the Polish MFA said the Romanian Presidency's motto, "Cohesion, a common European value," aptly identifies a key success factor of the European project. "Poland hopes that this approach will guide all further work of the Presidency," emphasised Minister Czaputowicz.

The diplomats discussed Brexit, challenges related to the coming end of the current institutional cycle, the 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework, and the single market in the context of eliminating barriers that hamper the growth of European businesses. The meeting also touched on security issues, guidelines for the Middle East conference in Warsaw on 13 -14 February, and the situation in the EU's near neighbourhood.
