19.08.2019
On 19-22 August, Minister Czaputowicz will be visiting the US, where he will hold an open debate at the UN Security Council on the security situation in the Middle East region and open an informal Council meeting in the Arria formula on the security of religious minorities. HHe will also visit Chicago to meet the local Polish diaspora.
The purpose of the UN Security Council’s debate on challenges to peace and security in the Middle East on 20 August is to discuss the sources of conflict, the current dynamics of events, and possible crisis solutions. The event marks Poland’s continued strong engagement in the Council’s discussion on improving the situation in the region.
On Thursday 22 August, Minister Czaputowicz will launch the Council’s Arria formula meeting to discuss ensuring safety of religious minorities. The meeting is held on the first International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief, which has been established on Poland’s initiative.
Both events are part of the programme of major initiatives organised by Poland during its six-month presidency of the UN Security Council.
A visit to Chicago on 21 August will be an important point of Minister Czaputowicz’s US tour. He will be meeting the leaders of Polish diaspora communities and organisations. Foreign Minister Czaputowicz will visit St Adalbert Cemetery in Niles, where he will lay flowers at the Katyn Monument and the Smolensk Crash plaque, and will also visit the Holy Trinity Polish Mission and the Polish Museum of America.
