02.06.2019
On Monday, 3 June, the chief of Polish diplomacy will take part in a meeting of foreign ministers of the Council of the Baltic Sea States in Jūrmala
During the meeting, the ministers will discuss reforming the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) and the current challenges facing the region. The adoption of a declaration and a road map of the CBSS reform are also planned. The meeting will end the Latvian Presidency of this organisation. In July, Denmark will take over the annual Presidency of the Council.
The Council of the Baltic Sea States is the most important organisation for inter-governmental cooperation in the Baltic Sea region. It was founded in Copenhagen in 1992, during a conference of foreign ministers of states in the region. It groups all the states situated along the Baltic Sea (Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, Poland, Russia, and Sweden), as well as Iceland, Norway and the EU. The Council is engaged in a political dialogue in the region and in thematic groups of cooperation among experts. It also supports the implementation of local multilateral projects and is a forum for exchanging good practices.
