Minister Jacek Czaputowicz visits Seoul

“Poland and the Republic of Korea are strategic partners. Our cooperation has a great potential, especially in the area of economy, research and innovation,” said Minister Jacek Czaputowicz at a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Kang Kyung-wha.
The ministers agreed that apart from the dynamic development of political relations, our two countries have forged closer economic links. “Poland has ambitious plans for its economic growth. The Republic of Korea is our reliable investment partner,” noted Minister Czaputowicz. The ministers also focused on cooperation in the field of aviation, the armaments industry, infrastructure, energy and people-to-people contacts. The officials discussed in detail the meeting of the Working Group on Cybersecurity, set up as part of the Warsaw Process, which is currently taking place in Seoul. Minister Czaputowicz emphasised his hopes for the emerging Polish-Korean cooperation in this area. “There is a large untapped potential for cooperation in the field of cybersecurity, which is important not only for defence, but also the economy,” noted the Polish minister. Furthermore, the interlocutors talked about the current situation in the Korean Peninsula, expressing their hopes for the resumption of negotiations between the US and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
The main topic of the meeting between Minister Czaputowicz and Korean Minister of Unification Kim Yeon-chul was the situation in the Korean Peninsula. “Poland has been closely following the dialogue between the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, as well as the negotiations between the United States and North Korea. We appreciate the role of the Republic of Korea in easing regional tensions,” highlighted Minister Czaputowicz
Furthermore, the chief of the Polish MFA met with the representatives of academia. During a meeting with teachers of the Polish language at Hankuk University, Minister Czaputowicz thanked the Department of Polish for its commitment to the promotion of Polish language teaching in the Republic of Korea. While at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies, the Polish top diplomat talked about Polish foreign policy from the perspective of our membership in NATO, the EU and the UN Security Council, as well as the current situation in East Asia, with particular focus on actions which can bring lasting peace to the Korean Peninsula.
A day earlier, on Sunday, 6 October, Minister Czaputowicz met with Poles living in the Republic of Korea and Polish Pallotine priests carrying out their missionary work in this country.
