The head of Polish diplomacy called for strengthening efforts to provide Ukraine with ammunition, air defence systems, and long-range missiles. He welcomed the German initiative to transfer Patriot systems to the Ukrainian army and supported the use of frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine. He also confirmed Poland’s significant participation in the Czech initiative to procure ammunition for Ukraine. In addition, Minister Sikorski noted the critical situation of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which is constantly under Russian fire. Further attacks could trigger another wave of migration of Ukrainians.

In a follow-up to the informal conference of the EU’s foreign affairs ministers of 16 April 2024, the head of Polish diplomacy expressed support for Palestinian membership of the UN. He emphasised that Israel’s peace effort will be instrumental in resolving the conflict. In view of Iran’s destabilising role in the region, Minister Sikorski called for a prompt finalisation of the extension of sanctions to cover Iranian drones, including all components for their production.

Addressing the situation in Sudan, the participants in the discussion stressed that the country is experiencing the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, which is also affecting the EU, especially in the context of migration. At a recent conference of donors in Paris (15 April 2024), Poland donated EUR 1 million in support to Sudan.
