Minister Radosław Sikorski meets with Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Matteo Mecacci

During today’s meeting, Minister Radosław Sikorski and Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Matteo Mecacci focused on Poland’s cooperation with ODIHR regarding promotion of democracy and the rule of law, as well as the Office’s engagement in the monitoring of human rights violations committed by Russia in Ukraine.
Minister Sikorski assured his interlocutor of Poland’s support for ODIHR activities and underlined the special importance of the OSCE’s engagement to protect human rights and fundamental freedoms.
ODIHR’s presence in Warsaw is of vital importance for Poland. The Office’s activity, particularly as an organiser of election observation missions, has earned appreciation of the international community. These missions enjoy a high degree of trust due to their independence and professionalism. ODIHR activity also contributes to Warsaw becoming a major venue of international debate on the condition of democracy and human rights in OSCE participating States.
