02.02.2024

On Friday, 2 February 2024, the chief of Polish diplomacy took part in the 3rd Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum, headed by High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Josep Borrell, as well as in an EU-ASEAN ministerial meeting.

General View

The Forum was attended by more than 70 high-level representatives of EU member states, together with the region's partner states and organisations. The delegates discussed cooperation and further implementation of the EU's strategy for the Indo-Pacific in such sectors as security, economic resilience and investments, and green transition.

On a security panel, Minister Sikorski stressed the relationship between Russia's ongoing aggression in Ukraine and the security situation in the Indo-Pacific. He noted that the protection of international order based most notably on the rules of sovereignty and territorial integrity is in the interest of all countries seeking economic and social growth, which can be achieved in a peaceful and foreseeable environment.

As part of the 24th EU-ASEAN ministerial meeting, Minister Sikorski highlighted Poland's involvement so far, as well as the country's willingness to further develop collaboration with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states, for example in green and digital transformation, connectivity, sustainable development and supply chain security. Poland stands ready to share its experience, skills and business potential in order to support capacities, socio-economic development and security of our ASEAN partners.

The visit also included the minister's meetings with his counterparts from Vietnam, Brunei and Indonesia. The aim was to take stock of the partners' existing relations and to help identify the areas of future political and economic cooperation.
