Minister Radosław Sikorski presents Professor Marek Safjan with Bene Merito honorary distinction

Today, Poland’s top diplomat has presented Professor Marek Safjan with the Bene Merito honorary distinction. Established in 2009, it is conferred by the Minister of Foreign Affairs in acknowledgement of services that contribute to strengthening Poland’s status in the international arena.
In his laudatory speech, Minister Radosław Sikorski highlighted Professor Marek Safjan’s achievements and accomplishments at every stage of his career. Professor Marek Safjan has for many years represented Poland at various international bodies and institutions. From 7 October 2009 to 31 January 2024, he was a judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union. As Minister Sikorski noted, “in the course of Professor Safjan’s professional career, Poland, Europe and the world (...) have undergone momentous changes.”
“Breakthrough changes also occur today, which is why Poland also today needs people like Professor Safjan,” said Minister Sikorski, praising Professor Safjan as a role model for young generations of Poles.

The Bene Merito honorary distinction is granted to Polish citizens and foreign nationals. Since its establishment, it has been received by 950 awardees.
