The ministers talked about the current geopolitical situation, including Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine and the support for the latter in its combat. Both sides agreed that the European Council's session on 1 February will be crucial in this respect. It will focus on reaching an agreement between 27 member states on the revision of the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2021-2027, including the Ukraine Facility.

The ministers discussed the prospects for bilateral and European cooperation to tighten the partnership, in particular in military terms. They underlined the importance of cooperation between Poland, France and Germany within the Weimar Triangle and expressed willingness to revive it at the level of foreign ministers.

The ministers also referred to the cooperation as Poland prepares for the presidency of the European Union in 2025, which will take place in a political context determined by a new institutional shape of the European Union after the European Parliament elections scheduled for June 2024.

Another item on the agenda were the future transatlantic relations once the elections in the United States will have taken place this autumn.
