Minister Rau meets with head of Japanese diplomacy
04.04.2022
“We appreciate the unique nature and timing of this visit. You came to Warsaw at a very difficult moment for European and international security, at the time of Russia’s open and completely unjustified aggression against independent Ukraine,” stressed the head of the Polish MFA during a meeting with his Japanese counterpart Yoshimasa Hayashi.
Minister Zbigniew Rau drew particular attention to the importance of the position and measures taken by Japanese diplomacy to strengthen the unity of actions and the common message sent by countries that object to the violations of basic principles of international coexistence in the face of the Russian aggression. The top Polish diplomat outlined Poland’s comprehensive measures to assist Ukraine, expressed his appreciation for Tokyo’s joining the sanctions against Russia, and underscored the importance of solidarity that Japan’s society and government have shown to Kyiv.
The foreign ministers focused on the developments in Ukraine, the situation of refugees, and humanitarian aid following Russia’s armed attack against the country. They discussed in detail the framework for Polish-Japanese cooperation and coordination to increase humanitarian aid for Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees, including those arriving in Poland.
Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi visited Poland in his capacity as Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s Special Envoy for Ukraine. While in Poland, Minister Hayashi also visited a reception centre for Ukrainian refugees in Warsaw and the border crossing point in Medyka.
