Minister Rau’s call with chief of Vietnamese diplomacy
20.04.2021
“For over seventy years, Poland and Vietnam have enjoyed a friendly and multifaceted relationship, and it is exceptionally good at present. I hope cooperation between our two countries will continue to develop vigorously, which will be evidenced by successive high-level visits,” emphasised Minister Zbigniew Rau during a phone call on Tuesday.
The call with Bui Thanh Son, Vietnam’s new top diplomat, was to reaffirm both sides’ interest in the consistent development of bilateral relations in their political and economic dimension. The ministers discussed priority areas of cooperation and the prospects for an exchange of highest-level bilateral visits.
They mentioned President Duda’s visit to Vietnam in 2017, which led to the signing of a number of agreements. Minister Rau expressed hope that the Vietnamese president’s return visit to Poland could take place at a mutually acceptable date.
The ministers also discussed the economy. Despite the pandemic, trade between Poland and Vietnam rose by 7% in 2020, reaching USD 3.73 billion. The head of the Polish MFA stressed that Polish companies, particularly from the agri-food, pharmaceutical, IT, and new and green technology sectors, as well as Polish educational institutions are increasingly interested in working together with Vietnam.
“The Vietnamese diaspora in Poland certainly contributes to closer relations between Poland and Vietnam,” said Zbigniew Rau, highlighting the role played by the Vietnamese community in Poland’s economic and cultural life.
