Minister Sikorski holds talks with Prime Minister of Principality of Andorra
19.04.2024
Head of Polish diplomacy Radosław Sikorski met today in Warsaw with Xavier Espot Zamora, Prime Minister of the Principality of Andorra. The talks focused on bilateral relations, association treaty negotiations with the European Union, and support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s aggression.
Minister Sikorski expressed satisfaction with the very good state of Polish-Andorran relations. The interlocutors also raised the completion last December of Andorra’s nine-year-long association treaty negotiations with the European Union. Minister Sikorski expressed hope that the referendum on the EU association agreement scheduled by the Andorran government for early 2025 will meet with support from the Principality’s citizens. The coming years, emphasised Minister Sikorski, could bring new opportunities for enhancing our relations with Andorra as a country associated with the European Union. In this context, he mentioned the economic, social, and cultural domains, among others.
Referring to the conflict in Ukraine, the Polish foreign minister thanked his interlocutor for the assistance provided to Ukrainian refugees, implementation of the sanctions packages, and Andorra’s joining in the measures condemning Russia at international organisations. By so doing, Andorra has for the first time departed from its tradition of neutrality.
