High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell summoned the meeting in response to Iranian airstrike targeting Israel on the night of 13–14 April. The EU ministers categorically condemned Iran’s drone and missile attacks on Israel. The EU reiterated its commitment to Israel’s security and urged utmost restraint in order to deescalate the situation. In his address, Minister Sikorski emphasised the far-reaching consequences of escalated tensions in the Middle East, including for the course of the war in Ukraine, and called for expanding the scope of EU sanctions on Iranian drones.
