Minister Sikorski’s calls with foreign ministers of Italy and Georgia

Monday saw another round of Minister Sikorski’s consultations with foreign partners: Antonio Tajani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, and Ilia Darchiashvili, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
Speaking with his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani, Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski expressed satisfaction on the very good state of Poland-Italy relations, with a strong economic cooperation as their important dimension. The ministers agreed about the need to further enhance political relations, including through bilateral visits.
The heads of Polish and Italian diplomacies expressed belief that Warsaw and Rome have a shared concern about the EU’s future. In this context they announced close collaboration between Poland and Italy within the EU. The two ministers welcomed the European Council’s decision last week to open accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. Poland’s top diplomat reaffirmed Poland’s unwavering support for Ukraine as it battles on against Russia, and expressed appreciation for the assistance Italy has provided to Kyiv since the war’s outbreak.
Minister Sikorski also raised the need to duly commemorate General Władysław Anders in Italy against a backdrop of next year’s 80th anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino.
Speaking with his Georgian counterpart, Ilia Darchiashvili, Minister Sikorski outlined the prospects for developing bilateral relations and the possibilities for supporting Georgia as it continues reforms necessary for its full EU membership.
