On 20 April, The Hague hosted a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Zbigniew Rau and Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Wopke Hoekstra. The talks focused on Russian invasion of Ukraine and its consequences as well as on sanctions against Russia.
The ministers discussed humanitarian aid for Ukraine, particularly in the context of support for refugees, and stressed the need to scale it up. They also spoke about security and defence, including military assistance for Ukraine, post-war reconstruction of the country, and strengthening NATO’s eastern flank. In addition, the officials talked about Polish-Dutch bilateral relations, also as regards the situation of Polish temporary agency workers in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and emphasised the importance of values shared by the two countries.
The top diplomats of Poland and the Kingdom of the Netherlands also inaugurated the 31st session of the Utrecht Conference, an annual forum of Polish-Dutch expert consultations. Within the framework of this year’s conference, five working groups were set up in the following thematic areas: the internal market, energy and climate, the EU’s external policy, security and defence, and financial, customs and tax cooperation. The Polish delegation included representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Economic Development and Technology, National Defence, Climate and Environment, and of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.
