The ministers exchanged views on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and its implications for the security situation in the Asia-Pacific region, also in the context of this year’s Japanese G7 presidency and the upcoming G7 Summit in Hiroshima. They also talked about possible further strengthening of economic and political cooperation between Poland and Japan. The ministers’ meeting showed convergence of judgements and views between the two countries on the most important global issues.
Similarity of views on the key international issues was reiterated during a courtesy meeting with Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. Minister Rau thanked his interlocutor for his recent visits to Kyiv and Warsaw, and hoped to enhance cooperation with Japanese partners to support Ukraine, including Ukrainian refugees in Poland.
During his stay in Tokyo, Minister Rau joined the celebration of the 3 May Constitution Day, also attended by, among others, representatives of Japanese authorities, local Polish diaspora, and the diplomatic corps. The ceremony included awarding of state distinctions and unveiling of a plaque to commemorate Ambassador Tadeusz Romer.

During a lunch with Polish clergy in Japan, Minister Rau thanked for their pastoral work and initiatives aimed to foster Polish identity, including educational and social assistance activities.
