Poland elected member of UNESCO’s Executive Board
20.11.2019
On 20 November at the 40th Session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris Poland was elected a member of UNESCO’s Executive Board. Other newly elected states from our electoral group are: Russia, Serbia and Hungary.
As a member of the Executive Board, and using its strong position established in the recent years, Poland will take part in the decision-making process concerning reforms which will define the future shape of UNESCO. The membership of the Board will also allow Poland to pursue its priority objectives, for instance in the area of the protection of tangible and intangible world heritage, and to promote Polish achievements in fields of UNESCO’s competence.
The Executive Board, alongside the General Conference and the Secretariat, is one of UNESCO’s three constitutional organs. The Executive Board is the most important intergovernmental body supervising the implementation of the Organisation’ programme and budget and giving opinions on all important decisions. The Board has 58 member states. Every two years the General Conference elects half of new members of the Board for a four-year term.
