Poland requests senators from Texas and Florida to seek American lawmakers’ support for its compensation claims for losses caused by German aggression and occupation in 1939-45

12.01.2023

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arkadiusz Mularczyk

On 12 January 2023, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arkadiusz Mularczyk, Government Plenipotentiary for Compensation for Damage Caused by German Aggression and Occupation in 1939-1945, addressed Senator Ted Cruz from Texas and Senator Rick Scott from Florida requesting their support for our efforts to receive compensation for damage caused by German aggression and occupation in 1939-1945. He also asked that the US Congress undertake legislative actions to investigate Germany’s unequal treatment of countries harmed during World War II — investigations aimed at a thorough analysis of Germany’s failure to pay reparations to Poland and the backing of our compensation claims presented in the diplomatic note of 3 October 2022. The senators will also be sent the English version of the Report on losses suffered by Poland as a result of German aggression and occupation during World War II 1939-1945.

This is another diplomatic initiative undertaken by Poland, after sending letters to UNESCO, the Council of Europe, the UN and the selected US Congress committees. Addressing the Polish request to influential US senators is another step towards obtaining compensation.

We hope that an appropriate analysis by American lawmakers will lead to Berlin’s revisiting its position on compensation for Poland.  We hope that the Federal Republic of Germany will finally take systemic actions to compensate losses suffered by Poland from Germany, as a result of a new situation where senators and congressmen of the most powerful political system in the free world are to begin an analysis of our Report and our arguments.
