Polish and Indian deputy foreign ministers meet for political consultations
12.12.2022
In their talks, Undersecretary of State Marcin Przydacz and Secretary (West) Sanjay Verma of India's Ministry of External Affairs focused on further cooperation between Poland and India in political and economic terms as well as in international fora. The deputy foreign ministers also talked about the most important regional and global issues, including the international implications of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
"Today's consultations are a confirmation that the bilateral relations have been flourishing. We have been watching India grow rapidly and rise globally as an active player in the G20 and an influential non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. We hope that India will make good use of its position as a major pillar of multilateralism in the world to promote global order based the UN Charter and on international law," said Deputy Minister Przydacz.
Applauding the coincidence of Minister Verma's visit to Warsaw and the 75th anniversary of India's achievement of independence, the deputy minister emphasised the good dynamics behind the bilateral political contacts. He recalled Minister Zbigniew Rau's April visit to India and participation in the Raisina Dialogue conference in New Delhi. The deputy ministers discussed the state of political and economic relations, including the prospects for a closer cooperation in trade and investment, defence industries, connectivity, and cybersecurity. They reviewed the treaty base and the work towards its expansion. Also discussed were the major issues of the EU-India cooperation, including in the context of the latter country's assumption of the G20 Presidency this December.
The security situation in Central and Eastern Europe and in Asia was another important item on the agenda, followed by an overview of the ways to prevent the humanitarian, food, and energy crises and other consequences of Russia's military activity targeting Ukraine. Minister Przydacz presented Poland's assessment of the Russian aggression against Ukraine and its aftermath for global security, urging successful fight against Russian disinformation. The two ministers exchanged assessments of a more general global situation and the two countries' relations with major partners.
The consultations included the signing of an agreement between the government of the Republic of Poland and the government of the Republic of India on engagement in gainful occupation by family members of a member of a diplomatic mission or consular post.
