Polish and Czech deputy ministers responsible for economic diplomacy held bilateral consultations in Prague on 23-24 September. The key issues under discussion included enhanced bilateral economic cooperation, development of economic diplomacy activities, priorities of the Polish presidency of the Visegrad Group, implementation of infrastructure projects in Central Europe, and the future of the Three Seas Initiative. The Polish MFA was represented by Undersecretary of State Paweł Jabłoński.
During the two-day consultations in Prague, Deputy Minister Jabłoński held talks with his Czech counterpart Martin Tlapa. They focused on the new economic challenges in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, bilateral economic cooperation, strengthening a favourable climate for developing bilateral investments and trade, collaboration at the EU fora and within other international organisations to increase the competitiveness of Central Europe, and the development of strategic infrastructure and regional projects, in particular the Three Seas Initiative.
The deputy chief of Polish diplomacy also met with Jan Sechter, Czech Deputy Minister for EU and International Relations, Railways, Water Transport, Civil Aviation, ITS, Space, R&D, and former Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Poland. The diplomats agreed that it is necessary to develop infrastructure projects which enhance our region’s economic attractiveness and competitive potential. They also discussed cooperation in bilateral and regional energy and telecommunication projects.
Deputy Minister Jabłoński met with CEO of Czech Trade Radomil Doležal to share experiences in producing an effective response to new challenges, supporting enterprises, and economic promotion in the new circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
While in Prague, Deputy Minister Jabłoński opened a debate on Czech priorities under the Three Seas Initiative organised by the Czech think-tank Institute for Politics and Society in cooperation with the Polish Embassy and the US Embassy in Prague.
The deputy minister’s agenda also included a meeting with Polish entrepreneurs operating in the Czech Republic. The participants discussed its business environment in terms of current opportunities and barriers. “Polish entrepreneurs are the best ambassadors of our country and brand,” stressed Deputy Minister Jabłoński in his address to the representatives of Polish business. He also noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic a close cooperation between business and administration is even more important to build Poland’s economic position abroad and to ensure a place for Polish products and services in the global supply chain. “We are open to your needs and expectations,” highlighted Deputy Minister Jabłoński.
