Polish-Georgian consultations in Warsaw
29.10.2019
“Georgia is our major partner and its role in the regional security policy is of primary importance. It is also the most important export market in the South Caucasus region. This is reflected in an intensive political dialogue and dynamic trade,” said Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz during talks with his Georgian counterpart Vakhtang Makharoblishvili.
Tuesday’s consultations focused on security issues – including a joint assessment of threats posed by Russia, a bilateral political dialogue, as well as economic and cultural cooperation. The diplomats also discussed Poland’s support for Georgia on its path to European and Euro-Atlantic integration. In this context, Deputy Minister Przydacz stressed that challenges in the region require the EU and its member states’ unwavering and constant support for Eastern Partnership countries. The future of the Eastern Partnership is also a test of credibility and solidarity for the EU.
During the talks the deputy ministers also discussed the humanitarian situation in the breakaway territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The undersecretary of state at the Polish MFA assured the Georgian side that Poland uses international fora to constantly raise the issue of the difficult humanitarian situation in Georgian regions that have been occupied by Russia. Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz also stressed that Poland invariably supports Georgia’s independence and territorial integrity, as well as the country’s sovereignty within its internationally recognised borders.
