The part attended by Head of the Foreign Service Rafał Wiśniewski covered the matters of political cooperation, including the planned high-level meetings and the possibilities to foster relations in the areas of trade, investments, new technologies, and academic exchange. An important role of the arms industry in strengthening the bilateral relations was emphasised. The head of the foreign service encouraged the Malaysian side to continue cooperation in the agri-food sector with the aim of supporting countries in Southeast Asia in providing food security.

Held with Undersecretary of State Jakub Wiśniewski, the other part of the consultations focused on regional issues, such as Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. The talks offered an opportunity to exchange views on the EU–ASEAN relations and the options for cooperation in multilateral fora. Also discussed were the two countries’ planned activities in regard to Poland’s Presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2025 and Malaysia’s Chairmanship of the ASEAN in 2025.

The Malaysian side presented their position on the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) and Deforestation Regulation.
