Secretary of State Arkadiusz Mularczyk visits Iceland
22.01.2023
During his visit to Reykjavík on 19-21 January 2023, Deputy Minister Arkadiusz Mularczyk met with Martin Eyjólfsson, Permanent Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iceland, Auðunn Atlason, foreign policy adviser of Iceland’s Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir, and Þórhildur Sunna Ævarsdóttir, a parliamentarian and a member of Icelandic delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
The visit was aimed at informing the Icelandic partner about bilateral and multilateral diplomatic activities related to the compensation for victims of German aggression and occupation payable to members of their families, as well as at requesting support for the Polish proposals in the context of Iceland holding the presidency of the Council of Europe.
On 16-17 May, Iceland will host the Council of Europe summit. Bringing a broader problem of an aggressor state’s liability for human, material and cultural losses to the attention of the international community is of topical interest in the context of the ongoing war on the European continent.
Other items on the meeting agenda included current bilateral issues, for example the prospects of a bilateral cooperation in terms of hydrogen and geothermal energy, as well as eastern policy and security.
