Secretary of State Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski visits Japan

Deputy Minister Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski visited Japan on 6–9 August 2024. The minister met with the Japanese government’s representatives: Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoichi Fukazawa, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Hideki Murai, in charge of Ukraine’s reconstruction, and board members of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The agenda included future development of the Poland–Japan strategic partnership, established in 2015, Polish–Japanese cooperation in regard to rebuilding Ukraine, and the global political and security situation.
Deputy Minister Bartoszewski also participated in a seminar on the security situation in Central and Eastern Europe, organised by the Polish Embassy in Tokyo together with the Japanese National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) and the Polish Centre for Eastern Studies (OSW). The minister gave a speech inaugurating the event and took part in a discussion panel with the deputy director at the Centre for Eastern Studies, Justyna Gotkowska, with Keio University Professor Michito Tsuruoka, and with GRIPS expert, Professor Yoko Iwama.
Another important item on the agenda was the ceremony of awarding the Bene Merito honorary distinctions, which took place in the Polish Embassy and was attended by the recipients, their families and colleagues. During the ceremony, Deputy Minister Bartoszewski also presented special distinctions to Mr Akira Kitade and Mr Naoki Yoshihara, who contributed to the strengthening of the Polish–Japanese ties.
