Twenty-five ambulances, medical equipment, and food donated to Ukrainian local governments

01.07.2022

On Friday, 1 July, a ceremony was held in Lviv to hand over 25 ambulances and supplies needed by the Ukrainian civilian population. Poland was represented by Deputy Minister Paweł Jabłoński, who together with Ukrainian administration representatives, President of Solidarity Fund PL, and Polish diplomatic corps posted in the city, handed over the equipment to our neighbours.

The donated aid will help civilians from about 120 hromadas (communes and munipalities). About 90 hromadas have a combined population of ten million people, many of whom have been internally displaced. The remaining 30 hromadas (mainly located in the Sumy, Chernihiv, and Kharkiv oblasts) are recovering from war damage after having been liberated from Russian occupation.

“The 25 ambulances that have been donated today will save thousands of Ukrainian lives – soldiers, civilians, women and men, adults and children. Ten million people living in selected hromadas most in need will be a little safer thanks to them,” said Deputy Minister Jabłoński during the ceremony.

The Ukrainian side received, apart from 25 new ambulances manufactured in Poland worth in total about EUR 2.5 million, medical equipment (400 defibrillators, 1,100 IV stands, 25,000 tactical first aid kits, 10,000 tourniquets, and small medical supplies such as needles, syringes, IV drips etc.), 335 tonnes of food (groats, tinned food, powdered baby milk etc.), 350 tonnes of detergents, and 120,000 baby and adult diapers.

Totalling ten million euros and financed by the European Union, the project was carried out by Solidarity Fund PL in cooperation with Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (Polish development bank) thanks to the efforts of the Polish MFA.

Further medical aid (consisting of mobile ultrasound scanners, ECG machines, ventilators, and clinical defibrillators), as well as equipment and clothing for about 500 firefighters from 40 voluntary fire brigade units will be delivered by the end of July.
