South Sudan

Diplomatic relations between Poland and Ethiopia were established on January 31st, 2013.

Political cooperation

The Republic of South Sudan proclaimed independence on 9 July 2011. Krzysztof Stanowki, the undersecretary of state in Polish MFA took part in the ceremony on behalf of the Polish Government. Bilateral diplomatic relations were officially established on 31 January 2013. The Ambassador of Poland to Ethiopia is also accredited to South Sudan. On 18 September 2017, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Witold Waszczykowski had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Sudan, Deng Alor and the Vice-President, Taban Deng Gai during the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly. From January 2018 Poland coordinates the UN Security Council Committee concerning South Sudan.

Economic cooperation

Poland’s trade with South Sudan remains on a low level (around 500.000 USD per year). IT sector offers many opportunities for bilateral cooperation.

Polish Center for International Aid (PCPM) supports refugees in South Sudan.
