Tuition fee refunds in case of a visa refusal

23.08.2021

Refund issues are settled between students and universities. If you don’t start you studies for any reason, including visa refusal, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland does not mediate between the student and the university, and has no legal instruments to help obtain the refund from the universities.

Announcement

Issues related to tuition fees for educational services by public universities are regulated in the Act of 20 July 2018, Law on Higher Education and Science. In case of non-public (private) universities, they are regulated internally by these universities.

Students conclude civil law contracts with universities. These regulate admission process, the course of studies, fees and the rules on fee refunds. Candidates for studies should carefully study these documents, in particular the provisions on refunding tuition fees.

If the university fails to refund the fee as stipulated in the contract concluded with the student, claims may only be pursued through civil law procedures.
