The meeting was an opportunity to emphasize the EU's significant commitment to the countries of the Western Balkans. The leaders underlined the mutual solidarity in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the European aspirations of the region's countries. Head of states confirmed the EU's readiness to further strengthen support for the political, economic and social transformation of the Western Balkans.

The videoconference was also attended by the President of the European Council, the Commission and the European Parliament, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and representatives of international financial institutions.

During the meeting, a common declaration of the leaders of EU member states and Balkans states was adopted (LINK).

Poland actively supports Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Northern Macedonia and Serbia on their path to European integration, sharing their experiences from the period of accession negotiations with the EU. Last year, our country chaired the Berlin Process - an initiative supporting the integration of the Western Balkans with the European Union and Western Balkans Summit in Poznań in July 2019. A symbol of Polish solidarity was also a declaration of support for the reconstruction of Albania after the tragic earthquake that hit the country last year (EUR 2.7 million). Poland intends to continue its active policy of supporting Western Balkan countries on their path to European integration also during the Polish presidency of the Visegrad Group, which will start on July 1 this year.
