26.01.2020
Polish flags at the Permanent Representation of Poland to the EU are being flown at half-mast on 27th January to pay tribute and mark the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
International Holocaust Remembrance Day is an international memorial day on 27 January commemorating the tragedy of the Holocaust that occurred during the Second World War. It commemorates the genocide that resulted in the deaths of 6 million Jews and 11 million others, by the German Nazi regime. It was designated by the United Nations General Assembly resolution on 1 November 2005.
The UN calls for this time to be a warning to all people against hatred, racism and prejudice.
In Poland, the main events commemorating the Holocaust Remembrance Day take place in Auschwitz-Birkenau and in Warsaw at the monument to the Ghetto Heroes.
