The Excise Duty and Gambling Department is responsible for the implementation of tax policy in the area of excise duty, tax on the extraction of certain minerals, gambling tax, a fee on foodstuffs and other charges of a similar nature, and also exercises substantive supervision over the application of tax regulations remaining within the Department's jurisdiction. The Department also implements energy and climate policy within the excise tax, identifies and co-creates IT solutions in the excise tax area. It promotes the dissemination and popularisation of knowledge in the area of excise tax. In addition, the Department monitors the market of excise goods, passenger cars, innovative products and certain minerals (copper, silver, gas, crude oil), and also gambling market. Department cooperates with tax authorities and European Union institutions, and participates in planning budget revenues for the purposes of tax policy.
The Department is responsible for the regulation of the gaming market, including the granting of concessions, permits, approval of the regulations of games under the state monopoly and issuing decisions determining the nature of games, as well as authorizations to perform technical tests of gaming machines, lottery drawing machines and gaming devices.
