WUF 11 in Katowice

Katowice as the capital of the world in 2022 and Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy as co-organiser of WUF 11

The Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy (MDFRP) coordinates preparations for 11th edition of the World Urban Forum, which will take place in 2022 in Katowice.

The world Urban Forum in Katowice will be the first event of this kind in Central and Eastern Europe and an excellent opportunity to promote our experience in the field of sustainable transformation and urban policy. The conference will be attended by over 20,000 participants from around the world representing governments, local governments, the world of science, non-governmental organisations and institutions active in the field of urban policy.

Poland actively participates in the debate on challenges of modern urbanisation. That is why organisation of the World Urban Forum is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy (MDFRP) and the Government Plenipotentiary for the organisation of the World Urban Forum in 2022 in Katowice, appointed by the Prime Minister. From July 2019, this function has been fulfilled by Secretary of State at MDFRP, Grzegorz Puda.

As part of the preparations, MDFRP works closely with the City of Katowice, the Silesian Voivodship Office and the Marshal Office of the Śląskie Voivodship.

The success of Katowice

Granting the right to organise this prestigious event is another, after the climate summit (COP24), confirmation of the importance of Katowice as a centre of successful socio-economic changes and a hospitable host of major events. It is also a huge distinction for our country and an expression of trust from our UN partners.

What is WUF?

The World Urban Forum is an event organised every two years by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN Habitat), aimed at promoting sustainable urban development and discussing the challenges of modern urbanisation. Before Katowice, editions of the World City Forum were organised, among others in Kuala Lumpur (2018) and Abu Dhabi (2020).
