“Honouring the Heroes” reception at the Ambassador’s residence
30.04.2024
On April 30, at the Residence of the Polish Ambassador in New Delhi we paid tribute to two accomplished Polish climbers, Adam Bielecki and Mariusz Hatala, who carried out a dangerous rescue mission and saved life of Indian mountaineer Anurag Maloo on Mount Annapurna in April 2023.
Mr. Maloo, after tragically slipping and falling into a deep icy crevasse during his expedition on Mount Annapurna in April 2023, was trapped in the perilous location at an altitude of approx. 6,000 meters for 72 hours before the Polish climbers, supported by a team of Nepalese sherpas, mountain guides and a helicopter pilot, came for his rescue.
The event was an excellent opportunity to hear out the stories of those who played a crucial role in this dangerous, high-altitude rescue operation and celebrate traditions of Polish Himalayan mountaineering.
We welcomed over 200 guests, including family members of the climbers, rescuers and medical professionals involved in Mr. Maloo’s recovery, as well as the representatives of mountaineering and climbing communities.
