Maciej Hunia

Maciej Hunia, chargé d'affaires a.i.

Born on February 25th 1961 in Cracow, where he grew up and completed his education.

In the 80s, he studied at the Jagiellonian University, obtaining M.A. in History. During that time, he was involved in democratic movements in Poland.

After political changes in the country, he joined the State Protection Office, a newly founded Polish Intelligence Service. 

Between 1990 and 1997 he worked in the local unit of the State Protection Office in Cracow.

From November 1997 to June 2002, he headed the Counterintelligence Directorate at the State Protection Office.

From June 2002 to October 2006, he headed the Counterintelligence Department at the Internal Security Agency.

In 2007, he worked at the Polish Embassy in Prague, Czech Republic.

Between 2007 and 2015 he held the position of the Chief of Military Intelligence and Foreign Intelligence.

Maciej Hunia retired from intelligence services in 2015 in the rank of Brigadier General.  

Since 2019 till 2023 he served as an advisor to the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Upper Chamber of the Polish Parliament. 

Married, fan of mountains (former rock climber), skiing and history.
