Exhibition "Mom, I don't want war" and a concert by Evgeny Khmara at the Polish Embassy in Kuwait

13.09.2022

On September 13, at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Kuwait, held an exhibition titled "Mom, I don't want war", which consisted of works by Polish children from 1946 depicting atrocities from World War II, and drawings by Ukrainian girls and boys showing the ruthlessness of Russian aggressors during the ongoing war in Ukraine. The event was organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Ukraine in Kuwait.

Wystawa "Mamo, ja nie chcę wojny"

The historical outline, genesis and contemporary background of the presented exhibition were presented by Ambassador Paweł Lechowicz. The head of the Ukrainian Embassy, Oleksandr Balanutsa, thanked the Poles for the comprehensive assistance provided to his country. He also recited an anti-war poem by a Ukrainian author. The exhibition was graced by a concert by the well-known Ukrainian pianist and composer Evgeny Khmara, who performed a few songs.

"The child is not a soldier, he does not defend his homeland, although he suffers with it".

The quoted sentence of Janusz Korczak, a great educator - a friend of children, is the motto of our project, because, like the Old Doctor, we want to emphasize that a child is not a soldier, even if he fights with a weapon in his hand, and that he suffers because he is always a victim of war. Together with you, we want to look at the war through the eyes of children and listen to their emotions, considering their works as extremely moving testimonies of the war.

The exhibition presents historical drawings of Polish children from 1946, which are a record of their experiences during World War II and the German occupation 1939-1945, kept in the Archives of New Records in Warsaw, in the team of the Ministry of Education from 1945-1966, and contemporary drawings of Ukrainian children related to the war currently taking place in Ukraine, collected on the Mom I see war portal.

A variety of children's emotions, which are reflected in the drawings: from fear and despair to hope and faith in victory, testifies to one thing - children should not suffer from war, they deserve happiness and love.
