Visit at Al-Shagaya Renewable Energy Park

Representatives of the Embassy of Poland, along with the representatives of other countries in Kuwait, participated in a study visit to the Al-Shagaya Renewable Energy Park, organised by Kuwait Institute of Scientific Research (KISR).
The meeting was chaired by KISR Acting Director Dr. Manea Al-Sudairawi and Al-Shagaya Complex Director Dr. Ayman Al-Gattan.
Al-Shagaya Complex covers an area of 81 km2, is located 100 km west of Kuwait City, and approximately 30 km from the Kuwait-Saudi border.
The project was completed in 2018 and is managed by the contractor, the Spanish consortium TSK Group.
Al-Shagaya Complex consists of:
1) a 50 MW thermal solar power plant
2) a 10 MW wind power plant consisting of 5 Siemens-Gamesa G97 turbines of 2 MW each,
3) A 10 MW photovoltaic power plant: 5 MW of panels consisting of 920 strings of crystalline silicon modules (305 Wp each) in series of 20 modules, and 5 MW of panels consisting of 4320 strings of thin-film copper indium selenide modules (160 Wp each) in series of 8 modules,
4) the Shagaya substation, from which electricity is exported to Kuwait's national grid,
5) 132 kV overhead transmission line with a length of 32.5 km for the transmission of electricity to the national grid,
6) Industrial and road infrastructure to serve the park.
