Poland in Malta

“As the Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Army, I hereby notify belligerent and neutral governments and nations of the existence of an Independent Polish State, within all the territories of the united Poland” – with these words Józef Piłsudski addressed the heads of world powers and notified them about the formation of the Second Polish Republic.

On 11 November 1918, 102 years ago, Poland regained its independence. On this day, after his release from the Magdeburg Fortress, Józef Piłsudski took over military command from the Regency Council and, three days later, assumed supreme authority over civilian matters, to finally “as Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Army [...] notify belligerent and neutral governments and nations” of the reappearance of “the reborn and independent Republic of Poland” on the map. After 123 years of captivity, Poland became a sovereign and internationally recognised state.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of John Paul II and the 30th anniversary of his first pilgrimage to Malta, celebrated this year, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Valletta organized an exhibition prepared by the Centre for the Thought of John Paul II entitled "Karol Wojtyła. # birth". The exhibition will be available to visitors on October 15-29.

The MFA organised a series of expert panels and an information and promotional campaign under the slogan “UN Week” to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations Organisation.

Two yachts with Polish crews took part in the 41st Rolex Middle Sea Race - the yacht "I love Poland" of the Polish National Foundation and the yacht E1 with a crew from Yacht Club Sopot. They took the first and the second places in the category of monohull yachts.

Happy Mother's Day, Belarus — this is the slogan promoting the latest Belarusian House Foundation's initiative. In the coming weeks, its representatives will encourage the international community to send postcards to the world's largest media and organisations. The aim of the postcards will be to show what is currently happening in Belarus. The Foundation chose 14 October — the day on which Mother's Day is celebrated in Belarus — as a symbolic date for the beginning of the campaign. The initiative of the Belarusian House Foundation is supported by the Polish Government.

On October 4 concerts in honor of Saint John Paul II were held in St. Patrick's church in Sliema and in Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Paul in Mdina. The religious songs were performed by Anna Lasota (soprano) and Jakub Oczkowski (tenor).

On August 31, 2020, Poland celebrates a very important date in its history. On that day, 40 years ago, the Independent Self-Governing Trade Union "Solidarity" was established. On this occasion, a light projection of the "Solidarity" logo was displayed on the facade of the building of the House of Representatives, Parliament of Malta on Monday, August 31, 2020.

On 15 August 2020 we solemnly celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw – a culminating point of the Polish-Soviet War (1919-1920) and one of the most decisive events in the history of Poland, Europe, and the world.
