Children's Day picnic in The Hague

On 2 June 2024, a family picnic was held in The Hague to celebrate International Children's Day. The picnic was organised for the fifth time by the POLKA Foundation, one of the most active Polish associations in the Netherlands. The Polish Embassy in The Hague was a partner of the event.

The event was officially opened by Consul General Katarzyna Smoter and Monique van der Berg, Programme Director for Migrant Workers of the Municipality of The Hague.

The picnic programme included educational and sports activities for children, as well as unique creative workshops. The festival was an excellent opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle, especially among the youngest participants. The highlight of the programme was the play 'Little Red Riding Hood', organised by BUDA Staging Performance from Breda and performed by actors from the Nowy Teatr in Nowy Sącz.

During the picnic,  representatives  of the Polish Embassy, together with representatives of the Polish School in the Netherlands, provided detailed information about the possibilities of learning Polish in the Netherlands and the about the Dutch education system.

The International Children's Day Picnic has become a regular and well recognised event organised by the Polish community in the Netherlands. The festival has gained recognition not only among the Polish community in the Netherlands, but also among other residents of The Hague, as evidenced by this year's edition, that was attended by around 3,000 visitors.
