On September 7, 2024, the first edition of the Polish festival "Witaj! Eindhoven" took place in Eindhoven, celebrating Polish culture and fostering a sense of community among Poles living in the Netherlands. The event was a great success, attracting over 3,000 attendees. The festival's highlight was a concert by the band Lady Pank, preceded by speeches from the Mayor of Eindhoven, Jeroen Dijsselbloem, and the Polish Ambassador to the Netherlands, Margareta Kassangana.
The festival began with the Polish Fair, meticulously organized by a group of Polish volunteers, including representatives from the most active Polish organizations in the Netherlands. The event showcased a rich mosaic of Polish culture, thanks to the tremendous efforts of organizations such as the Polish School in Eindhoven, the "Polish Nest" Foundation, the "Heart of Poland" Foundation, as well as the "Polish Scene," the "Forum of Polish Schools in the Netherlands," and the "Buda Staging Performance" group. These organizations hosted interactive workshops, quizzes, and sports activities that were very popular with attendees.
The Polish School in Eindhoven conducted art classes and competitions for children, made possible through co-funding from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For adults, there were theater and dance workshops, allowing them to explore different aspects of Polish art.
During the fair, attendees had the opportunity to taste traditional Polish food and purchase Polish souvenirs and handicrafts. The event featured a carefully curated artistic program, with performances by Polish artists based in the Netherlands. Professional groups performing traditional Polish folk dances also contributed to the vibrant atmosphere.
In addition to cultural showcases, several organizations provided support for Polish migrants by offering essential information on social, legal, and psychological assistance. Attendees could visit stands where advice on life in the Netherlands was available, which was particularly appreciated by newcomers.
During the fair, staff from the Polish Embassy in The Hague provided detailed information about learning the Polish language in the Netherlands, activities of Polish schools, and the Dutch education system. The Polish Consul was also on hand to answer questions related to administration and consular services.
The evening concluded with a concert by the band Lady Pank, which drew a large and diverse public, both Polish and international. The concert was preceded by speeches from Mayor Jeroen Dijsselbloem and Ambassador Margareta Kassangana, who both emphasized the need for further social integration efforts.
The success of "Witaj! Eindhoven" was quickly noticed on social media, where many members of the Polish community shared their experiences and highlighted the significance of the event. A detailed article published in the online edition of Eindhovens Dagblad described the festival as the first major cultural event dedicated to the Polish community in the region (full article: https://www.ed.nl/eindhoven/op-het-poolse-witaj-festival-heeft-klaudia-het-gevoel-dat-ze-niet-meer-alleen-is-in-nederland~a01616f8/?cb=68aa3c85-a526-4473-a5fd-7c4498d1444d&auth_rd=1).
