30.10.2024
On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, a joint concert was held in Breda, featuring the Polish Orchestra of the Capital Royal City of Kraków, Sinfonietta Cracovia, conducted by Katarzyna Tomala-Jedynak, and the Dutch choir Bredense Opera, led by Lex Wiersma. The event, titled Liberation Concert in Honor of the Polish Liberators, marked the culmination of several days of ceremonies commemorating the 80th anniversary of Breda’s liberation by the soldiers of the 1st Polish Armored Division under the command of General Stanisław Maczek.
The concert program reflected the events and emotions experienced by the Polish soldiers who liberated Dutch cities. A particularly symbolic moment was the performance of Mémoire de Mémoire by Hanna Kulenty, a Polish-Dutch composer. This piece was commissioned by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Warsaw specifically to honor the 80th anniversary of Breda’s liberation by General Maczek’s 1st Armored Division.
The concert served as a significant tribute to the heroic efforts of Polish soldiers in liberating the Netherlands, while also strengthening the enduring and friendly relations between Poland and the Netherlands.
The event was organized by the Polish Embassy in The Hague in cooperation with the Breda Municipality, with financial support from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
