Europe Day in Wellington
09.05.2022
May 9 is Europe Day, a day when we remember that the foundations of the European Union were based on the ideas of peace in Europe. This year, however, we cannot experience it fully. The unjustified and unprovoked war on the part of Russia is an attack not only on Ukraine, not only on Europe, but the whole world.
The European Union has dedicated this year's Europe Day to Ukraine. At St Paul's Cathedral in Wellington a touching concert took place. The profits from the tickets will go towards Ukrainian needs.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland Grzegorz Kowal delivered a speech presenting Poland's role in helping war victims. Among the performers were the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the Choir of the Cathedral of St Paul in Wellington and the Tudor Consort Choir. During the concert, along with the anthem of the European Union, the national anthem of Ukraine was played as part of solidarity with the Ukrainian nation. The concert attracted over 600 people, including representatives of the Ukrainian Gromada.
