Polish kiwi into the wild!

On May 31, the Ambassador participated in a ceremonial release of a kiwi named Pōrana ("Poland" in Maori) into the Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre
To mark this special moment and express the gratitude for the care over baby kiwi, the Ambassador gifted a kiwi figure made by the factory in Ćmielów which was handed over to the Director of the Reserve.
The event was marked by the presence of the local authorities representatives, as well as by a group of journalists. The story of naming kiwi Pōrana is well known and published by the in the main journals such as NZ Herald and Stuff. You can read one of the articles here.
Later this year, we will be celebrating the 80th anniversary of the arrival of Polish children to Pahiatua. Kiwi Pōrana is a reminder about the historical bond between Poland and New Zealand.
