Visit to the Polish Embassy in Wellington

Delegation from the Parliament of the Republic of Poland visted New Zealand

A Polish parliamentary group visited New Zealand between October 30 and November 02 2024, with the following members:

  • Chairwoman of the Poland-New Zealand Parliamentary Group, MP Wanda Nowicka,
  • Deputy of the Group, MP Katarzyna Ueberhan,
  • Member of the Group, MP Marek Matuszewski,
  • Senator Tomasz Grodzki,
  • Group Secretary, Tomasz Ziolkowski.

The purpose of the visit was to participate in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the arrival of Polish Children in Pahiatua and to meet with representatives of the New Zealand authorities.
The delegation met with representatives of the Ministry of Women (Manatu Wahine), the National Council of Women of New Zealand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) and visited the New Zealand Parliament, where they met with MP Tangi Utikere. During the meeting, a letter from Senate Speaker Kidawa-Błońska to the Speaker of the NZ Parliament was handed over. The delegation also met over dinner with the Organizing Committee for the 80th Pahiatua Reunion. During the dinner, Chairwoman Nowicka presented the Committee with a gift from the Parliament and Senator Grodzki presented them with a Senate medal.
During the second full day of their stay on November 1, the delegation participated in the 80th anniversary of the arrival of Polish Children in NZ in Pahiatua. The importance of this celebration was exceptionally high due to the round anniversary and the fact that it was probably the last time such a large group of "children" was able to participate.
