Climate action
Climate change generates a number of negative effects, significantly limiting the development and economic growth opportunities of countries and societies and threatening the well-being of individuals. This is a global challenge, requiring a common response and coordinated coherent action, both in terms of sustainable management, strengthening resilience to and counteracting these changes.
Polish aid supports public administration in partner countries at all levels to help it ensure effective environmental management, including enforcement of environmental legislation. It is important for us to integrate environmental aspects into social and economic policies.
At the same time, social needs and the pursuit of economic growth should be borne in mind. Biodiversity, forest resources, renewable energy sources also require attention. In the Eastern Partnership countries, we support the approximation of internal regulations to European Union standards.
- Forests and biodiversity
Forests, due to their capacity to absorb greenhouse gases, are crucial in the fight against climate change. It is, therefore, necessary to combine the activities of government and local administration, local communities and individual residents to support the impact of greenery on the climate.
As part of Polish aid, we undertake information and education activities on afforestation and biodiversity. We protect forests and forest ecosystems currently exposed to deforestation and land degradation. We focus on preserving and restoring the natural balance and biodiversity of all ecosystems.
- Renewable energy sources
Renewable energy sources can increase the availability of electricity, but also contribute to combating climate change and reducing its negative effects. In the countries of sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East, increasing demand for electricity is leading to an overproduction of electricity from traditional sources. This is despite the increasing use of renewable energy sources. We will, therefore, take measures to improve energy efficiency and to promote the production and use of energy from renewable sources.
Polish aid supports the creation of standards and a framework for regulating the sector, including for research into new technologies.
