Polish development assistance

Development assistance is an important instrument for achieving the goals of Poland’s foreign policy. Through its assistance measures, Poland builds stronger, mutually beneficial political, economic and social relations with Polish Aid partner countries. The goal is to strengthen the political, economic, and social potential of developing countries. We support institutional capacity building and strengthening human capital so that societies can work out their own solutions to their problems and, to the greatest degree possible, take responsibility for their future, development, and prosperity.

Poland’s approach to development issues is characterised by a belief—drawn from its own socio-economic transformation—that it is impossible to build and develop a prosperous society without the democratisation of public life. That is why Poland’s development assistance primarily focuses on measures that support good governance, democracy and human rights, as well as systemic transition.

Polish public authorities are becoming increasingly active in supporting systemic transition in partner countries. Ministries and agencies as well as local government units have at their disposal experts with suitable preparation and extensive experience. This enables us to effectively support civil servants, among others in Eastern Partnership countries, in successful socio-economic reforms. The involvement of Poland’s non-governmental sector is also crucial.  Our geographical and cultural proximity and transition experience make us an attractive partner for our eastern neighbours.
