The European Centre for Global Interdependence and Solidarity
The European Centre for Global Interdependence and Solidarity (commonly known as the North-South Centre) is an agreement between some of the countries of the Council of Europe, established to promote its values of human rights, democracy and the rule of law, and the countries of the South that have joined it.
It is a tool for multilateral cooperation between the Council of Europe and its neighbouring regions to support a democratic transition, the promotion of good governance and the strengthening of the undertakings undertaken by the Council of Europe to combat global and cross-border threats.
The North-South Centre is a platform of cooperation for governments, parliaments, local and regional authorities and representatives of the society who work together on a given issue. The Centre conducts research and organises debates, workshops and training courses.
The North-South Centre runs a global education programme which aims to develop and support development education in the Member States in the formal and informal education system and to enhance the capacity of institutions and practitioners providing such education.
The Centre coordinates the Global Education Week – an annual event to draw the attention of Europeans to the functioning of the modern world and the consequences of globalisation, and to promote personal commitment to sustainable development.
Polish development NGOs cooperate within the Centre’s network with foreign partners and coordinate the organisation of the Global Education Week in Poland through the http://teg.edu.pl/.
