32th Session of the FAO Regional Conference

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Grzegorz Puda attended today the 32th Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Europe, which was held virtually.
The topics of the Session included sustainable food systems and healthy nutrition in Europe and Central Asia.
In his address, minister Puda stressed the need for further progress in achieving the international community goals concerning sustainable development, including the elimination of hunger and malnutrition, also in the context of effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture cited examples of the country's efforts, especially as regards promoting healthy eating habits and preventing food waste He also declared Poland's willingness to actively participate in a discussion on transforming food systems, food and nutrition security, public health, healthy eating, and sustainable agriculture.
The 32th Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Europe will last until 4 November. FAO Regional Conferences are convened every two years, reuniting all FAO members from the region (in the case of Europe and Central Asia– 53 countries and the EU) as well as observers from international organisations and NGOs. The FAO Regional Conferences are used to exchange information and setting regional priorities of FAO efforts.
The topic of the present session is directly related to the UN Food Systems Summit planned for 2021. Like other session participants, minister Puda stressed the considerable importance of the Summit for transforming global food systems.
