13.02.2024
Today, the Undersecretary of State Adam Nowak met at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with the new Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Poland Amirsaid Agzamkhodjaev. The Deputy Minister congratulated the new Ambassador on taking up the mission in Warsaw and expressed hope for strengthening Polish-Uzbek cooperation.
Position of Poland
Deputy Minister Adam Nowak confirmed that Poland was interested and ready to deepen cooperation in the agricultural sector.
– This is a very important sector for both the economy of Poland and the economy of Uzbekistan, and trade in agri-food products has a great potential – said Deputy Minister Nowak.
– We are observing an increase in the Polish agricultural export to Uzbekistan. This shows that Uzbek consumers are interested in Polish products and trust them – stressed the Undersecretary of State Adam Nowak.
Currently, these are mainly poultry meat and offal, which occupy the first position in the Polish export to Uzbekistan.
Deputy Minister Nowak also expressed his hope for the quick elimination of barriers to access to the Uzbek market, which limited the development of mutual trade. During the meeting, the demands of Poland were presented by the Chief Veterinary Officer Paweł Niemczuk.
Position of Uzbekistan
Ambassador Amirsaid Agzamkhodjaev confirmed his willingness to cooperate with Poland in the field of agricultural issues. He proposed to organise in Tashkent an inaugural meeting of the Polish-Uzbek working group on agriculture, combined with the Polish-Uzbek Business Forum. Ambassador Agzamkhodjayev stressed that Uzbekistan was particularly interested in Polish experience related to modern technologies in the field of agri-food processing, animal breeding, fisheries and agricultural clusters, as well as economic migration, scientific and research and academic cooperation.
Areas of cooperation
As potential directions of cooperation, the Ambassador indicated the production of feedstuffs and compound feedstuffs (in Uzbekistan, the high demand for these goods was high), fruit-growing and tree nurseries.
Trade with Uzbekistan
Between January and October 2023, the value of agri-food export to Uzbekistan amounted to EUR 54.5 million — this means an increase by 85.4% when compared to the same period in 2022. To Uzbekistan, we exported mainly meat and edible poultry offal, chocolate and other food cocoa-containing products, other processed or frozen vegetables – mainly potatoes and pet food.
