Diplomats at Służewiec
20.09.2021
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Grzegorz Puda met on Sunday with the representatives of the diplomatic corps of foreign missions accredited in Poland. Warsaw’s Służewiec Horse Race Track hosted 23 ambassadors and over 100 representatives of embassies accredited in Poland. This is a continuation of the traditional meetings of representatives of the Polish administration responsible for agricultural affairs with representatives of foreign missions.
‘We work together daily, exchanging experiences and information, striving to strengthen the relations between our countries to the benefit of our economies and in the interest of our farmers. I would like to thank you for this good collaboration sincerely,’ said Minister Grzegorz Puda welcoming the foreign guests.
The head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture pointed out that the last months had not been easy. The COVID-19 pandemic hit various sectors of the economy. Farmers and agri-food processors, but also citizens, felt the consequences of the restrictions.
‘We have realised how important the agricultural sector and stable food supply chains are for ensuring food security,’ stressed the Minister.
He also added that the value of agri-food exports from Poland in the first half of 2021 increased by more than 5 per cent despite the pandemic.
‘We strive to make Polish products synonymous with the highest quality and safety standards. Thanks to the constant technical, technological and organisational development of the food sector, Poland has become one of the leading modern and innovative European food producers,’ emphasised Minister Grzegorz Puda.
The Minister pointed out that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development undertakes many actions that strengthen and develop Polish agriculture and Polish countryside.
‘The priority of our actions are family farms. We want to preserve as many of them as possible so that they can effectively compete on the single market and still fulfil their multiple functions,’ said the head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture.
He also added that in the Strategic Plan of the CAP, the support is targeted more directly at small and medium-sized family farms. Support will also be provided for agricultural retail trade and organic farming, which are seen as an opportunity for Polish farmers. In addition, the National Plan for Reconstruction and Increasing Resilience provides for numerous important investments to support the agri-food sector.
‘I would like to encourage you to become the ambassadors of Polish flavours and Polish cuisine in the countries you come from,’ said the Minister, inviting the diplomats to try Polish specialties.
The diplomats who arrived at the Horse Race Track also had the opportunity to watch the race for the Cup of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
