Polish-French cooperation

The ministers emphasized their desire to reinforce the cooperation between Poland and France in the area of agriculture and its capacity. They declared readiness to further discussing the key challenges for the European agricultural sector and confirmed the necessity to take up the works on the EU forum on streamlining the Common Agricultural Policy and improving the situation of the European farmers.

About the farmers’ protests

The ministers discussed the postulates of farmers, who have been currently protesting in many EU Member States. The European farmers demand aid in stabilising their income, elimination of the excessive administrative barriers and restrictive requirements related to the environmental and climate protection as well as solving the problem of immoderate inflow of the agricultural products from Ukraine, which pose a threat to the competitiveness of the EU agricultural sectors.

Ukrainian products

Minister Czesław Siekierski noted that although Poland has been supporting Ukraine from the very onset of the Russian aggression, this cannot be done at the expense of the farmers from the border countries. At present, Poland discusses with Ukraine to find an effective export monitoring and licensing scheme.

The ministers jointly confirmed that there is a need for development of the tools allowing for redirecting the Ukrainian cereals onto the markets of third-countries, in which food safety is at risk.

There is also a need for a strategic reflection on the EU forum about the systemic solutions enabling the EU agriculture to operate in the conditions of accession of the new Member States to the UE, including Ukraine – a country of vast potential of agricultural production.
