20.01.2023
Green Week (Grüne Woche), an international trade fair regarded as the leading agri-food sector event, began in Berlin. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Henryk Kowalczyk, is participating in the fair.
Deputy Prime Minister Henryk Kowalczyk took part in the opening of the fair on the eve of its start to visitors. Today, he welcomed, among others, the German Minister for Food and Agriculture, Cem Ӧzdemir, and the EU Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, at the Polish national booth.
The Head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also met with the Polish Ambassador in Berlin, Dariusz Pawłoś. In addition, he visited the Polish national stand, which featured a total of 10 exhibitors this year.
The Green Week Fair was also an opportunity for Deputy Prime Minister Kowalczyk to have meaningful talks with agriculture ministers from various countries on current issues and challenges in world agriculture.
Press briefing
The Head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Henryk Kowalczyk, and the Deputy Director General of the National Support Centre for Agriculture (KOWR), Małgorzata Gośniowska-Kola, officially opened the Polish national stand at the Grüne Woche Fair. The event was accompanied by a press briefing, during which the Deputy Prime Minister referred to the just-concluded meeting with the Ministers of Agriculture of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania on the impact of increased imports of agri-food goods from Ukraine on the agricultural market. The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development stressed that this was the most important of today's meetings. Agriculture Ministers of the countries close to Ukraine discussed how to further assist it in transporting agri-food goods in such a way that imports of these goods do not disrupt their agricultural markets.
Polish national booth
The Polish national booth "Polen schmeckt" ("Poland tastes") was organised by the National Support Centre for Agriculture (KOWR). Germany's Minister of Agriculture and Food, Cem Ӧzdemir, EU Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski, Berlin Mayor Franziska Giffey and representatives of important German agricultural institutions visited it as part of the official celebration of the fair.
The "Polen schmeckt" stand attracts crowds of visitors. It hosts culinary demonstrations by Polish chefs under the leadership of chef Artur Wawr, combined with tastings of delicious, traditional Polish dishes. On the first day of the fair, visitors could taste, among other things, sweet and savoury pierogi, tuna paste, tartare, pâté or various types of cheese.
The Polish exhibitors who form the national stand together represent different regions and offer various products, such as ice cream with prebiotics, cured meats, juices, organic, cereal products or fish, vegetable and fruit preserves.
KGW Zimna Wódka at the Polish booth
The Rural Women Association (KGW) Zimna Wódka – the winner of the "Battle of the Regions" culinary competition for KGWs - also presents itself at the Polish national booth with traditional, regional dishes. On the first day of the fair, the women served, among other things, stuffed cabbage rolls in tomato sauce, home-baked bread with traditional country lard and, for dessert, a "floral carpet" cake. The tasting was very popular with visitors to the fair. The following day, the hostesses plan to hold cooking demonstrations and refreshments.
